Amitava Chakrabarti

[ born November 7, 1964, Calcutta ( now Kolkata ) ] is a Bengali and a seasoned professional with over 37 years of experience in Leadership, Management and Strategic Operations, inter-alia, the role of Head of the Department(s) played for over 8 years in functions like Marketing, Information Technology in Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), an energy sector Maharatna, Government of India Enterprise, having multi-product and multi-service portfolio delivered from multi-location operations.

Now, following superannuation, is committed to mentoring and contributing to development of Operational Excellence having passions for facilitating effective learning environments and empowering future leaders, eager to leverage accrued subject matter expertise in Operations Management, Resource Optimisation and Cross-Functional Collaboration to contribute to the growth and development of Business Organizations / Educational Institutions.

Early Life :

Born to Nani Gopal Chakrabarti and Kiwi Chakrabarti as their first child, in Medical College & Hospital, Calcutta ( now Kolkata ), hailing from a family inheriting Wisdom, Culture and Values fighting for survival as migrants since 1947 in the backdrop of partition. His Paternal side belonged to Pabna and Maternal side belonged to Rajsahi ( both are in Republic of Bangladesh at present ). His paternal grandfather Jnanada Govinda Chakrabarti was an eminent Teacher and had a sound background in Music and Literature whereas maternal grandfather Surendra Nath Moitra was a freedom fighter who worked with Gandhiji, Chittaranjan Das et al.

His father Nani Gopal Chakrabarti served in Indian Audit & Accounts Service and retired as Accountant General having held various responsible posts in Central and State Government. Mother, Kiwi Chakrabarti was a Teacher.

He started his primary education from a Government School, Jadavpur Vidyapith in Calcutta (now Kolkata) where he continued from Nursery to 12th standard ( +2 Level ). Then he joined Department of Mechanical Engineering of Jadavpur University, from where completed his Graduation in 1987.

Professional Life :

Joined Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, Ranipet ( in Tamilnadu ) – a manufacturing Unit - on 6th October 1987. Worked there for about 5 years and was then transferred to Calcutta ( now Kolkata)where he worked in different functions/departments as Line Manager till his superannuation on 24th November 2024 as Additional General Manager & Head of Commercial, reaching the finishing line of his Career 1.0 spanning for more than 37 years.

Co-Curricular Life :

With the background of a well accomplished family , he was genetically blended with Culture, Literature and Academic Affairs as the “Legacy”. Was a regular and prolific stage performer in cultural programmes, Business Meets etc. where he had earned laurel as “Outstanding Anchor Person “. His writing skill is per excellence.

A staunch supporter of The Read and Yellow Brigade – East Bengal.

Family Life :

Family is one where we are three. Spouse is an eminent scholar in Literature who has bagged many National Level Awards including Sahitya Akademi Translation Award and is presently working as the Vice Chancellor of a state university in West Bengal. Daughter is a brilliant student having won twin Gold Medal as the topper in both B Tech (HIT) and M Tech (IIT-ISM) and presently pursuing MBA in an Institute of repute by cracking CAT. She is also a popular singer having You Tube Channel titled Geetanjali. Please inspire her by subscribing to the channel.

Flair for Writing :

Have great flair for writing. Passion for penning down has created his identity as an “Author” having articles published and going to be published. It is believed that Pen, Paper and Ink will act as Air and Fuel for optimising the stoichiometric relationship for delivering optimum level of energy in the passage of his new journey with a new mission for a new destination…….

Philosophy of Life :

Staunch believer of the narrative made by Zig Ziglar , American Motivational Speaker, as

“ Attitude, not Aptitude, determines your Altitude” .

He has also coined a self made jargon “ Out of 26 only the First & Last alphabets are the worthiest “ A for Attitude and Z for Zeal “ that signifies “ Character ” and produces Winner.
